Alginate impressions and study models have been utilized in dentistry for many years, mainly to aid in diagnosis and dental treatment planning. Alginates are elastomeric and have the flexibility and duplicating properties to obtain accurate impressions. Once obtained, the impressions are poured in gypsum to obtain casts.

These models help us point out important issues in the patient’s oral condition. Study models also provide clear representation of the maxillary and mandibular teeth in the horizontal plane. In other words, the way in which the upper and lower jaw meet for a proper bite.

With the Case Study model we can pinpoint the patient´s wear patterns, missing teeth, drifting teeth, actual size reproductions of anatomical structures including tooth size, shape, positions, gingival margins, interdental papillae, and the freni. These are all important for our diagnostics.
