The majority of dental procedures that we perform here at the Dr. Marco Muñoz Cavallini International Dental Clinic can be achieved without the use of general anesthesia, but since the 1840’s its use has brought relief to many dentistry patients worldwide.
In Dental practice, the general anesthesia used is less invasive than in the rest of the medical world. But just as in medical general anesthesia, the use of this method will keep you totally unconscious and without pain during your dental surgery. You will also not experience anxiety and fear, an important reason we apply it for those patients with dental anxiety.
We will use medications that will make you totally unconscious – and deeply asleep – during the procedure.
How Safe Is Sedation Dentistry?
There is always a risk with anesthesia. It is safe, though, when administered by experienced anesthesiologists. However, certain patients, such as those who are obese or who have obstructive sleep apnea, should talk to their doctor before having sedation. That’s because they are more likely to develop complications from the anesthesia.
Before the procedure, go over your medical history with our Doctors and let them know of any medications you’re currently taking and if you followed their instructions and have not eaten or had any liquids for 6 hours before the surgery.
We constantly monitor your vital signs during the procedure and have on hand oxygen –artificial ventilation– and drugs that reverse the effects of sedation in case you need them.
